Growth of Indonesian blogs 2007-2011

In the last few years, we have witnessed how blogs and social media connect Indonesian people and enabling them to accomplish good causes. This overview of Indonesian online scene is what me, Ollie, and Unspun going to present at the 1st Malaysian-ASEAN Regional Blogger Conference in Kuala Lumpur this weekend.

It will be very exciting, as we got the opportunity to meet fellow bloggers from Brunei, Cambodia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and, of course, Malaysia.

You can download the paper here: Blogging and Socmed Trends in Indonesia (pdf, 68kb); presentation (ppt). One of the highlight in this paper is Indonesian people are exploring new online outlets to have their voices heard. While blog is no longer the only online medium that Indonesians use, but the spirit of sharing ideas and discussing it online remains the same, if not more vibrant.

This conference is organized by Malaysian Blog House, a newly formed association for Malaysian bloggers. With recent clashes between Indonesia and Malaysia, we see that a closer relationships—connected by blogs and socmed—would improve mutual understanding between regional bloggers, and enable us to face 21st century challenges.

Indonesia is the no. 1 Twitter penetration in the world

Papernya bisa diunduh di sini: Blogging and Socmed Trends in Indonesia (pdf, 68kb); ; presentasi (ppt).
